The head of the Institute for Health Freedom says now is the time for American residents to rise up if they want to keep control over their health records, because the data soon will be for sale and is forecast to become the next ';gold rush.';
WND has reported several times on similar issues, including when parents in Minnesota recently sued the state to prevent the collection of their infants' DNA without permission to use it for research.
Institute President Sue Blevins said the new ';stimulus'; bill approved by Congress provides for electronic health records for all Americans.
The move, she says, weakens an individual's control over his or her own health records to the point that data could be employed for research that may end up being used against the patient.
';The economic stimulus law plans for every American to use an electronic health record (EHR) and allows those records to be sold for research and public-health purposes 鈥?without patients' consent,'; she explained.

What do my medical records contain?
Medical records are created when you receive treatment from a health professional such as a physician, nurse, dentist, chiropractor, or psychiatrist. Records may include your medical history, details about your lifestyle (such as smoking or involvement in high-risk sports), and family medical history.
In addition, your medical records contain laboratory test results, medications prescribed, and reports that indicate the results of operations and other medical procedures. Your records could also include the results of genetic testing used to predict your future health. And they might include information about your participation in research projects.
Information you provide on applications for disability, life or accidental insurance with private insurers or government programs can also become part of your medical file.

So I Guess Patient-Doctor Confidentiality Has Just Been Thrown Out The Window!
It is Unbelievably Stupid that they can get away with this!!!So, who thinks it's just awesome Obama plans to release YOUR ';private'; health and medical records for sale?
Trust Comrade Obama. He would never do anything to hurt you. Praise be to Comrade Obama. All is well.

I knew when he pushing that bs computerized healthcare ';to create jobs'; he was up to absolutely no good. Too bad his fans don't realize this.
Obama is a moron and so are most of his cabinet members.
Maybe you should try reading some real news instead of the right wing hysteria news.
Funny how he wants all of our records but won't release his own. Oops.
Sue Blevins' interpretation of that portion of the Economic Recovery and Reinvestment Act:
';The economic stimulus law plans for every American to use an electronic health record (EHR) and allows those records to be sold for research and public-health purposes 鈥?without patients' consent.';
She provided her perception of it, which may or may not be on target. Sorry to burst your outraged bubbles, but HIPAA remains the trump card.
Right now, some of his voters are young, impressionable folks who are in good health and rarely seek medical treatment. Let one health episode occur which is unforeseen, such as an emotional/psychological nature. (an untimely death of a loved one, perhaps) This might be information (treatment, meds, counseling) which you deem personal. Good luck with that.
It has been proved that electronic records are not safe, even the government gets hacked. Who has pushed for this? Insurance Companies?
For instance, as a child you have a large, deeply embedded piece of wood removed from your foot, 30 years later there is a hard callous overgrown on that area. Insurance Co. says won't cover. Spend rest of life limping with pain. Sorry.
